All of our team possess over 30 years of data and insurance experience. In addition, the entire AIA team have been integrally involved in the industry effort to build a standard P&C data model and Business Glossary.
Bill Jenkins
Founder / Managing Partner
As founder and managing partner of Agile Insurance Analytics (AIA), Bill possesses over 35 years experience in the insurance industry in a variety of executive positions including 15 years as a CIO. He has held positions of top Human Resources Executive, strategic planning officer , Data Management Officer as well as Project Management Office Executive. Bill also held the position of COO of a large specialty insurance brokerage firm.
Bill possesses strong data management, project management , systems development and insurance operations knowledge and experience.
He was one of the first two external individuals elected to A.M.Best’s Rating Services board of directors and sat on ACORD’s board of directors for 8 years including being chairman of the board in 1999 and 2000. Bill has also been a board member on a number of insurance technology organizations.
Bill is a frequent speaker at industry conferences, and has authored numerous articles and white papers. He is currently leading a major industry initiative in the development of a standard insurance business glossary and data model(s). Bill possesses a BA from Temple University, a Masters of Science from Drexel University and an MBA in Finance from St. Joseph’s University. He also holds the CPCU designation.
Mike Gallo
Senior Business Analyst & BI Lead
Mike manages, designs and implements data and information reporting solutions for clients. He brings deep business and technology experience with over 30 years in the insurance industry as an IT analyst, data architect, data processing manager and business intelligence executive. Mike has strong insurance processing and reporting knowledge and background. He has successfully led major system development projects and transformations for a number of insurance carriers. He has been building insurance reporting systems, data warehouses and BI systems since 1989, both as a consultant and an in-house practitioner.
He was a BI/Analytics Officer for a large multi-national insurance carrier before joining AIA. He possesses strong skills and expertise in the design and implementation of management dashboards and reporting systems using state-of-the-art technologies and practices.
Russell R. Shaner
Senior Consultant
Mr. Shaner has over 40 years’ experience in general insurance and claims operations. He most recently served as President and CEO of Resource Partners a firm that specialized in the development and management of Captive Insurance Companies. Prior to that assignment, Mr. Shaner served as the President of the Insurance Society of Philadelphia.
Prior to joining AAA Mid-Atlantic Insurance Group, Mr. Shaner spent eight years at General Accident/CGU/One Beacon insurance Company where he was the Sr. Vice President of Claims for their personal lines direct-writing affiliate, Convenient Property and Casualty Group. He also served as Assistant Vice President of Claims for One Beacon’s national account/program business divisions.
In 2001 Mr. Shaner joined AAA Mid-Atlantic Insurance Group as the Vice President of Claims (Chief Claim Officer), responsible for claim handling functions for all lines of business including A&H. His primary responsibilities included ensuring service quality to AAA members, compliance with insurance laws/regulations, expense management (LAE) and appropriate claim outcomes. In 2010, he was promoted to Senior Vice President with responsibilities for Claims, Underwriting, Policy Services and a specialize Sales Unit.
Additionally, Mr. Shaner has held field management positions with Royal Insurance Company (3 years) and Allstate Insurance Company.
Lastly, Mr. Shaner has served as a member of the Board of Directors on numerous insurance industry Boards including:
Insurance Society of Philadelphia (prior to becoming President)
New Jersey Automobile Insurance Risk Exchange (NJAIRE)
Pennsylvania Insurance Federation.
Mr. Shaner holds a BA from Rowan University (formally Glassboro State College) and holds an Associate in Fraud Claims Law Designation.
Charlie Schaefer
Senior Business Consultant/Analyst
Charlie’s career spans over 4 decades primarily serving the insurance industry. Charlie was president of a large international consulting practice and has been involved in developing several insurance systems and insurance reporting services. Charlie has worked as a system
engineer on multiple insurance systems, project manager for insurance system development, business operations, data center manager, and most recently as a management consultant to the insurance industry.
Charlie has completed over 30 management consulting engagements for Life and P&C companies ranging in size from the smallest P&C Mutual to the largest Life and P&C companies. These engagements went from functional area and enterprise analysis/assessment to design and implementation inclusive of organization, technology platforms , workflow processes and staffing requirements. Charlie has been involved in multiple insurance benchmarking studies that identified organizational weaknesses and areas in need of strengthening and in need of change.
Charlie has authored a number of insurance-related articles and is a key member of the OMG data modeling/data glossary initiative. Charlie’s insurance designations are CPCU, CLU, ChFC and FLMI.
Susan J. Garza
Senior Data Modeler/Data Architect
Sue is AIA’s senior data and information architect and data modeler. Sue possesses over 25 years of experience in enterprise-wide data concepts and designs featuring metadata-driven
rule abstractions, full traceability, financial integrity, and integrated process controls. The majority of her career has been in property and casualty insurance as both an in-house practitioner and consultant. Sue has done additional consulting in healthcare, human services
and record management services.
She provides expertise in all aspects of data management, including data modeling, data warehousing, data quality, data governance, metadata standards, data auditing, process controls, stewardship development, and change management. She is an accomplished leader, manager, architect and consultant.
In addition to these achievements, Sue has spoken on the topics of data and information resource management to a number of professional groups, and has authored articles, white papers and several chapters of a textbook on data. Sue is an avid “student” of new data technologies and techniques.
She is the current data architect lead of the OMG standard insurance data glossary and data model(s) effort. Sue is active in professional organizations, and is past president of the Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter of DAMA (Data Management Association) and past president and chairman of the Philadelphia Section of ASQ (American Society for Quality).
Michael Baraz
Senior Information Architect
Michael is an innovative and experienced information professional having expertise in all areas of data management, data quality, data governance, master data management, data security and analytics. He possesses both strategic and hands-on experience in the design, management, development and implementation of information and data plans/initiatives.
Michael has worked on the development and implementation of enterprise data hubs for advanced analytics and enterprise integration architectures providing data stores on multiple shared platforms, i.e., AWS, Microsoft Azure and on-premise.
Michael has also had experience in development of enterprise data repositories including data warehouses and data lakes. He has excellent team building skills, business acumen and management abilities including strong project management skills and experience. Michael has created a number of data related training sessions, data assessment and maturity models.
Michael has been Global Head of Data Governance and Data Quality for an international insurer, Head of Information Architecture and Data Management for a large insurance brokerage organization and has as a consultant undertaken a number of data related projects in the insurance sector and in other industries.
The bulk of his career has been in the insurance industry. He has a BBA and MBA from Florida International University and has taken a number of post graduate courses around data science, data security and data architecture. Michael is a key member of the OMG data modeling effort.
